PRIVATE [26 Oct 2009|06:28pm]

by Valentina Tenani and Mario Pitto
for Muse, number 5

The fact of living in glass houses and offices results in a sort of voluntary exhibtionism. Reality shows, public confessions, interviews once prerogative of the more daring, are now ordinary routine and have come to represent the real truth. This is how private life, the deeper more intimate one, the one that should be protected from strangers and be revealed only to those we wish to welcome to our deepest soul, risks becoming of public domain, almost like a soccer field, only in this it is the ego of the individuals that is kicked around. Only in decency, considered as the natural result and the true definition of privacy, can defend our identity and secrecy  from the risk of a mediocre homologation of society. Decency not considered as being ashamed of nudity (one can be naked without letting through the least intimate detail), but seen as an instrument with which to decide when and how much to show to others, and by the same time protecting the more intimate sphere.

EVERTHING IS JUST PEACHY [27 Jan 2008|05:56pm]
"If peaches had arms
surely they would hold one another
in their peach sleep.

And if peaches had feet
it is sure they would
nudge one another
with their soft peachy feet.

And if peaches could
they would sleep
with their dimpled head
on the other's
each to each.

Like you and me.
And sleep and sleep."

she acts like summer and walks like rain
since the return from her stay on the moon
she listens like spring and she talks like june

tell me did you sail across the sun
did you make it to the milky way

tell me did the wind sweep you off your feet
did you finally get the chance to dance along the light of day

TEA + BOOKS [17 Jan 2008|07:12pm]

i had a good afternoon today. not day, had to go to school afterall, but afternoon none the least. i didn't do anything special, but tea and books can really sort of make my day.

went to 1 modern art bookshop, was sort of sad to find that the lady who owns the shop couldn't order the books i wanted, but oh well it was statsfying enough to browse through all the lovely books. plus the lady recognised me from all the times i had been there before and we talked for a second. she now knows my name, thought that was sort of nice. found this book, it was 50 euro though so i didn't end up buying it even though i most certainly would have liked to.

continued on my way to a tea shop, bought chamomile tea and "the herbalist's lover". went to the health food shop and bought a box containg 20 different kinds of tea from my favourite tea brand, sonnentor (sungate). all their ingredients are from farms in austria (so almost no food-miles) and they are all certified organic. and the teas really do taste incredibly delicious.

then went to 2 small independent bookstores and 1 big franchise bookstore. bought 'fruit - the cultivated gardener' and 'the meaning of tingo'. i will have to make a list of my favourite words from tingo, it's really hilarious. i've only read the foreword so far, but i already really like the word sekaseka meaning 'to laugh without reason' in the Zambian language of Bemba. and i will have to post pictures and poems from 'fruit' soon, it's so luscious.

on the way home i saw this pregnant women and she looked so lovely. she wore this black coat and black opaque tights with a skirt i'm guessing, but you couldn't see it. and with that she wore these beige fabric sneakers and a black beret. together with her belly she looked so gorgeous. the beige fabric sneakers just really rounded the otherwise rather girly outfit off so well.

sort of sad that this day went by so fast, but looking forward to many more like these.

i'd really like to have this, but it's really expensive here in austria.

the books i wanted to buy in the art bookshop. you should all take a look:
julie morstad - milk teeth
abbey hendrickson - the birdfeeder
amy cutler - paintings and drawings
clare richardson - beyond the forest

i do see the beauty in this place (and there's plenty actually), but then again there's beauty everywhere and sometimes one just has to look closer.
i can't possibly have seen all the magical places here and i know there is so much more to discover, but still, sometimes all i want is to get out of here.
just for a while at least.
